Event: the Open Dutch Quiz Contest 2023! – perfect for all quiz lovers

Disclaimer: This article has been created in collaboration with De Toeter. This ensures that we can continue to exist as a newspaper. De Toeter is our favorite pub and we meet here every week; because we are so stoked about them we wanted to share why!

Still nothing planned for this weekend? Are you looking for something fun to do now that the exam weeks are over? Then look no further!

This Saturday it’s time again for the Open Dutch Quiz Contest! For the 14th year in a row, the Martinikerk will be transformed into a battleground for all quiz enthusiasts among us. Like every year, people come from far and wide to participate, more than five hundred people have already registered. So it’s quite a big event. It must come to no surprise that it is organized by Café De Toeter. Every Sunday and Wednesday you can participate in one of their pub quizzes, and the upcoming weekend is the moment for an even more special one!  Likewise with the location. D’olle Grieze (this is what we call The Martinichurch in Gronings) is our local pride and with good reason. We see the outside often enough, the inside is equally breathtaking and our favorite city symbol takes this event to a higher level.

What about the drinks and snacks? These are of great importance, naturally, and there is no need to worry about that. There’s different beers, wines and other drinks galore. The prices for the drinks are budget-friendly, so this could be your moment to shine and give away a round! The hospitable and knowledgeable catering professionals of De Toeter are more than ready to quench your thirst. The snack package is also still available!

Furthermore, some practical information; the quiz starts at 19:00 and ends at 23:00 at the latest. There’s lots of prizes that will be given away, so every team has a chance to win something fun. The quiz is also presented bilingually – and we don’t mean in Grunnings, of course. Aside from Dutch, the quiz will be presented in English. Five people are allowed to participate per team. There are still a few physical places available, be sure to click the link to not miss out on this great event: www.opennederlandsequizcontest.nl.

Unable to attend physically? That’s no problem! It’s possible to attend both online and offline. The registration costs for your team online are also a bit lower, so you will have more to spend on your drinks!

If you really can’t manage to be there this weekend, you might as well pay De Toeter a visit soon. We meet there weekly and are very happy with their services. The staff always greets us with a smile and the drinks are top notch; which may have something to do with their 19 different taps. The cafe is full of character and has a rich history. Just ask the bar staff about what’s hanging on the wall or about the special taps that are used in old copper ship pumps. De Toeter is therefore distinctive for us, especially because of the service and the relaxed atmosphere. What do you say, you’ve never been a guest here before? Are you helemaal betoeterd? Bring along your date/whiskey lovers/housemates quickly, have fun!
